Back to Sewing Basics-Pajama Pants Here is an opportunity to learn to sew and to discover how much fun it is!   Learn basic construction techniques, how to follow pattern instructions and how to use basic sewing equipment.  Join us for 3 weeks of relaxation and fun while sewing a pair of pajama pants. This class is perfect for learning how to sew as well as  updating your sewing skills from way back when!!  Class Fee: $35.00 plus supplies.

Start Quilting with Alex AndersonStart Quilting with Alex Anderson—Bernina of America and Alex Anderson have developed a beginning quilting class for Patchwork Plus to use in our store. In this class, students will learn all the techniques needed to complete a quilt; rotary cutting, piecing, borders, quilting, and binding. The purpose of this class is to offer students a basic introduction into the wonderful world of quilting. Included in the cost of the class is the book “Start Quilting with Alex Anderson”.  This is a 4 session class.  Class Fee: $50.00 plus supplies.

4-Sided Placemat—Do you need any ideas for Christmas gifts?  Don’t stick to conventional, Go dimensional. Make 4 placemats in one. This is a wonderful gift idea, and it doesn’t take a lot longer to make then making one. Choose 4 different themes, and have place mats for 4 different occasions.

Serger Log Cabin Tablecover —Piecing a traditional quilt like the log cabin, on a serger is a breeze. The serger cuts, overcasts, and sews all in one step. We will be using quick piecing techniques.  This is a great way to use your serger.

Gift Ideas-Children's Class —Let your child be unique in their gift giving this Christmas.  If they like to sew, this is just the class for them.  These are quick gift ideas that they will be able to take home and make as many as they want. We will make 2 of each gift, so they have the skills they need to make lots of them.  Must be at least 10 years old and have taken at least 2 of our Level one classes or has taken sewing classes at school.  Come check out our projects in the store or on our website.  Class Fee: $35.00 plus supplies.

Basket of Blooms —Learn the techniques for creating dimensional flowers and leaves and applying them to a quilt. The process of combining blooms and leaves to construct a basket of flowers will be presented. You will make up to 6 flowers to create their own “Wildflowers” wall-hanging. A variety of embellishing techniques and options will be demonstrated. Class Fee: $50.00 plus supplies.

Stories from Grandma's Quilts —This lecture will give you some clues on the dates when your quilt was made. I can give you information about the quilt that you found in your mothers, grandmothers, or great grandmothers closet, trunk or attic. Who was it made by? By looking at the fabrics and patterns it can tell you about the time that your quilt was made. Bring a quilt with you, the whole class will take a look at it and I will give you an idea about it.  Class Fee: $20.00

Lace Ornaments —Using a Holiday Collection CD  and your embroidery machine, you will create 3-D lace ornaments for your Christmas tree and to share with your friends and family.  You'll discover that they are as much fun to make as they are to give!  Class Fee: $25.00 plus supplies.

Patchwork Classes

Keep Quilting with Alex AndersonBernina has developed a 2nd level class to follow up the “Start Quilting” class.  You will complete a Friendship Star quilt during this 4 week class.  Students will review all the techniques needed to complete a quilt-rotary cutting, piecing, borders, quilting, binding, and labeling-while adding new skills.  Class Fee: $45.00 plus supplies.

Basics of Machine Applique In this class, we will be making a fall leaf wall hanging.  You will learn how to do freezer paper appliqué , raw-edge appliqué, plus other methods.  You will also learn to make 3-D leaves using organdy.  Class Fee: $35.00 plus supplies.

Bursting Forth This is a pattern that will be in Barbara’s second book.  It is a triangle-based layout.  Techniques taught in this class include using organdy overlays, strip piecing, and sewing “Y” seams.  Class Fee: $35 plus supplies.

Stitches that Bind-Part 1 The pattern for this class is in my book, Star Struck Quilts.  In the first two classes (part 1) we will learn to make the “Ivy Spangle Banner Star.”  During part 2 which will be taught next winter, you will turn the star into a whole quilt.  Come and learn how to make a large star with smaller stars inside.  Class Fee: $35.00 plus supplies.

Vermont Fall Foliage Make a wall hanging or table runner that will be a wonderful accent for fall.  This can be constructed from scraps and 2 additional fabrics.  Choose to use a paper template or paper piece.  Class Fee: $30.00 plus supplies.

Spinning Pinwheels It is a simple,unique, and quick method that uses no “Y” seams.  Come and join the fun and learn some new tricks of piecing.  Class Fee: $30.00 plus supplies.

Day and Night This pattern looks complicated, but there is no Y seams, and you are piecing with strips, using a “Day” and a “ Night” fabric with an accent fabric. It is like “magic”. This is fast, fun, and fabulous!  Class Fee: $35.00 plus supplies.

Lover's Knot(or Rose Dream as it is also called) is a beautiful traditional quilt that is as lovely using one color, light and dark, as it is using light and dark "scrappy" fabrics. We will be using temples to accurately cut our pieces and  then sewing gently curved pieces with one pin and a 1/4” foot with a guide. Class Fee:$35.00 plus supplies.

Quick and Stunning (or what to do with those pretty panels) - Have you ever had an "occasion" slip up on you where a quilt would be perfect, but you just don't have the time to piece blocks?  There are beautiful block panels, but what can you do so they don't look panels?  In this class, we will explore a simple sashing method for panel blocks that will turn "ordinary" into a lovely project.  Class Fee: $25.00 plus supplies.

Baltimore Album –This is a series of two hand appliqué classes where we will learn some the basic designs used in a Baltimore quilt. The project is four different blocks consisting of two sprays and two different wreaths. We will be using a starch technique for making our appliqué pieces and using Mimi Dietrich's Baltimore Basic book for our patterns. We will concentrate on stems, leaves, berries, rings, roses and the cutest dimensional rosebud ever. Class Fee: $35.00 plus supplies.

Baltimore Album-Steps in Dimension This is the next step in our Baltimore Album where we will be exploring adding dimension to our quilt.  We will learn to make ruched flowers, both "strip" and in the "round".  We will add to our template methods a freezer paper technique that is definitely not normal.  We will continue to use Mimi Dietrich's "Baltimore Basics: Album Quilts from Start to Finish" for our patterns.  This is a hand appliqué class.  Class Fee: $35.00 plus supplies.
